Investing in a painting contractor – whether for residential and commercial – is an important part of your journey as an owner of tangible assets. You want to be sure that your investment stays looking in tip-top shape – and what that means, besides paying your mortgage or rent on time, performing fundamental repairs, and/or being sure to keep the proper records and insurance, is that you should be sure to keep your paint job up-to-date. A great paint job can last approximately 5 – 8 years – but 10 years isn’t unheard of, either!

Choosing the right painting contractor serving in Seattle and Seattle’s Eastside can be a daunting task – but it doesn’t have to be. As long as you properly vet your painter, you can be sure to obtain a high-quality paint job that can last you several years – and leave your neighbors or HOA with a lasting impression.

Get at Least Three Quotes

As with most services, it’s important that you get more than one quote. For many industries and business services, pricing and quality of work can really run the gamut – and painting is no exception. You’ll likely find that on your house painting project, you’re getting a variety of pricing options. Like anything else in life, you get what you pay for, and it’s worth noting that a licensed, bonded, and insured company like Tera Painting isn’t going to likely be the highest or lowest quote you receive (though there’s always an exception to the rule!). Additional factors like scheduling/timelines can affect price as well. Be sure to look at the painting company: do they background check their employees? Are they, like Tera Painting, licensed, bonded, and insured? Do they have before and after photos available for you to view? What neighborhoods do they paint in in your community? How do they prep your home prior to painting? What kind of paint do they use? Ask these questions will only help during your painting contractor search!

Follow-up With More Research

Look at their Yelp reviews, Facebook reviews, and even ask your friends and family their thoughts! Doing your research on a painting company, even before letting them come out to do an estimate, is key. Make sure that they also have positive Angie’s List reviews, and/or BBB ratings. In this day and age, social media reviews are gold – and for good reason! – but so are word-of-mouth reviews. Trust your loved ones to be able to provide you with some good ideas on who to hire – unless it’s their teenage son Brent who is taking a semester off to find himself. Brent’s not a pro. Call the pros.

Additionally, look at how it takes to properly prep and paint a home. You’ll likely hear this time and time again, but a good prep job is the true key to a lasting paint job. We’ll say it again: prepping a home properly is how you get your money’s worth! Be sure that that point is clearly written out in your estimate before you sign on the dotted line.

Quiz Your Estimator

Look up questions online (or talk to other painting contractors!) to ask your estimator before they arrive. You can ask some slow-ball questions but throw in a few curve-and-fastballs, too, to keep the game interesting. These folks are supposed to be experts, so they should be able to hit back whatever you’re throwing at ‘em!

Ask your estimator questions you wouldn’t necessarily think to ask, either, like safety issue questions. What safety measures does their company take? How often are their employees trained in new techniques and safety measures? These questions also go back to the insurance questions – what if there’s an accident at your home? How will that be covered? Showing that you’re concerned with safety makes it so that your Seattle house painter will be more concerned with it, too!
